If I am not working the next day, I will head down to the local bakery after work to buy some breads. Visited Swee Heng 1989 Signature at Causeway Point to check out what new stuffs they have on the shelves. They have these Danish bagels in two fruity flavours. Decide to go with the Mango Cream Cheese Danish Bagel (芒果乳酪丹麦贝果) at S$4.50 for a reasonably big piece. It is stuffed with cream cheese filling in the centre though the mango flavour is barely detectable. Would have been nice if real mango is mixed up with the cheese to add acidity and to tone down the one-dimension creaminess of the cheese.

I have been buying the Almond Custard Croissant from Swee Heng 1989 Signature at Causeway Point. Their new Walnut Salted Caramel Croissant (S$2.50) has walnuts and caramel sauce drizzled on the crust. On the inside, it is filled with custard cream. The caramel flavour unfortunately is too light to make an impression so I will stick to the cheaper Almond Custard Croissant.

This is Swee Heng 1989 Signature’s rendition of Walnut Brownie (S$4.20) though I am more inclined to call it Chocolate Walnut Cake as the texture is less dense, more toward soft and fluffy. Texture it may not but it does make up with having a rich chocolaty taste and plenty of crunchy walnuts on top.

A more colourful expression of the original flavour Kueh Lapis Legit (印尼千层蛋糕) shown here. This thousand layer cake from Swee Heng 1989 Signature cost just S$1.50 for two pieces. But there is a caveat, the more expensive Kueh Lapis Legit contained more butter in their batter but this cheap version don’t. So it lacked the characteristic buttery fragrant from their more expensive competitors which is the signature of this type of cake. Paired it off with a cup of less sweet milk tea with a sachet of ginger powder added.

Picked up this slice of Chocolate Walnut Cake (S$1.50) from Swee Heng 1989 Signature in Causeway Point thinking it was brownie but it wasn’t. Rather than the firm moist texture (as in brownie), this soft and moist chocolaty cake studded with walnut pieces was an equally good eat. Made myself an unsweetened cup of black tea to go with the late afternoon snack.

A new product from Swee Heng 1989 Signature in Causeway Point. This dusted purple Taro Salted Egg Chiffon Roll (S$5) is a Swiss roll with Taiwan yam paste and a thin layer of salted egg yolk custard all rolled in. The first thing you tasted is the fragrant yam, then the grainy texture of coarsely mashed yam. Finally, hints of salted egg yolk began to materialize, complementing the overall taste. Kind of an unusual combination that actually work well here and I quite like it.

If I am working from home the next day, I will typically drop by Swee Heng 1989 Signature at Causeway Point to buy some breads or cakes for breakfast the next day. Here is my favourite Spicy Korean Chicken (S$1.90) bun with two strips of spice marinated chicken meat with cheese and mayonnaise on top of a springy chewy bread. I recommended it to my colleagues and they all loved it too.
The Nacho Cheese Smoke Chicken (S$1.80) bun is a new product. If you love anything dipped in nacho cheese sauce, you would enjoyed this bun too with minced chicken inside it.

Bought this Roast Potato Chicken Sausage Pizza (S$2.40) from Swee Heng 1989 Signature to try out. The chunks of potato didn’t contributed much to the overall taste of the pizza as it is rather plain by itself. I rather buy the one with pineapple in it. I introduced the Spicy Korean Chicken (S$1.90) bread to my colleagues and they all enjoyed it. The bread base has a chewy texture which goes well with the marinated spicy chicken meat.

My first meal of 2022 is a sweet treat from Swee Heng 1989 Signature. This pastel green Pandan Kaya Cake (S$5.50) had been left chilling overnight in the fridge. On the first bite, you felt the cold custard, followed by the fragrance of the pandan and coconut milk in it. Together with the alternating layers of fluffy sponge cake, it makes for a good breakfast if I may say so.

In the morning when I woke up and need a quick energy boost till mum comes home with proper food from her marketing trip. This small piece of Chocolate Walnut Cake (S$1.50) from Swee Heng 1989 Signature will do the trick. Dark and rich moist chocolate cake with lot of crunchy walnut pieces to perk me up.

Got these two chilled sweet treats from Swee Heng 1989 Signature in Causeway Point for S$5.30 each. The green one is Pandan Kaya Cake and the yellow one Durian Cake. Both the cakes are fluffy soft with fragrant custard layers but my preference goes to the durian one for its authentic taste. Not that the pandan one isn’t authentic but it is harder to obtain the flavour true of the king of fruits.

Ondeh Ondeh Roll (S$2.20) from Swee Heng 1989 Signature at Causeway Point. It came with fragrant gula melaka coconut pandan filling and shredded coconut on the outside. The thing I like about their cakes is that they have small tasting portion rather than making you buy their full sized one. Frankly speaking, this doesn’t comes close to the real ondeh ondeh balls in taste if you are looking for that authenticity.

First time buying this Durian Cake (S$5.30) from Swee Heng 1989 Signature in Causeway Point. I didn’t have high hope on the taste, given the price point but it blew me off with realistic flavour from the king of fruits. In total, there are three layers each of durian custard and sponge with a soft, melty texture and so fragrant.

Have been buying this Almond Custard Croissant (S$2) from Swee Heng 1989 Signature at Causeway Point since discovering the crispy and flaky pastry. Drizzled with custard cream then topped with almond flakes and confectioner sugar. It is so yummy.

Bought this S$2.50 Crispy Garlic Cream Cheese Bun (蒜香乳酪) from Swee Heng 1989 Signature in Causeway Point. It resembled a blooming lotus flower filled with sweetish cream cheese and that give me an idea for the creation below.
Diced up some leftover Ham Royale and gave it a quick stir in the pan to caramelize them. Carefully filling the open gap with the ham cubes. Voila! I present you with my Crispy Garlic Cream Cheese & Ham Bun. :D The garlic and herb bits acted just like the fragrance of the flower perfuming my mouth. Then you hit the juicy charred savouriness of the ham before sinking into the creamy sweetness of the cheese nested deep in the heart of the blossom.

A sweet bun and a savoury bread from Swee Heng 1989 Signature at Causeway Point. The Cheesy Black Sesame (S$1.80) bread is a meal by itself. Black sesame seeds are worked into the dough then drizzled with mayonnaise and sprinkled with cheese for a savoury treat.
The Pandan Kaya Bun (S$1.50) has desiccated coconut all over the dome-shaped top with a dollop kaya or coconut jam in the centre. A pandan leaf is wrapped around the circumference of the bun to impart fragrance. The fluffy green bun is filled with sweet and fragrant coconut jam (kaya) which although is nice, is a little too sweet for me.
